October is the Indigenous Peoples Month Celebration of the Philippines. This year is also the 27th Indigenous Peoples' Rights Right (IPRA) Commemoration.

ACT International Consulting, LLC is kicking off the Indigenous Peoples Month Speaker Series 2024 with Author and Assistant Professor Elizabeth Joy Serrano Quijano of the Southern Philippines Agribusiness and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology!

Elizabeth Joy Serrano Quijano is an indigenous woman author from Davao del Sur, Philippines. Her stories are about the indigenous people, environment, women and children. Her works appeared in World Literature Today, Words Without Borders, LIT, Anomaly, and more. She was awarded as Woman of the Future Southeast Asia 2022 (Arts and Culture) in Singapore. Her book, "Dili Pwede Mogawas ug Ubang mga Sugilanon/Can't Go Out and Other Stories", won as the Best Short Fiction in Binisaya in the 41st National Book Awards by the National Book Development Board of the Philippines. She is a fellow to the 2024 Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiatives Regional Workshop on inclusive and sustainable cultural tourism in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Proj. Joy Quijano is currently a candidate for Doctor of Philosophy in Development Research and Administration from the University of Southeastern Philippines.
