Don't use a toothpick or anything where the tip might break off INSIDE the little hole.
I used a safety pin but filed down the sharp point using a metal emery board. A fine file will also work. Just wanted to get rid of the sharp point so as not to "scar" or "dent" the little "button" inside the whole. Think on the microscopic level, have lots of good light and wear reading glasses even if you don't need them. Get REAL CLOSE to the project.

A scrap of 20 gauge wire worked great for me. Another commentor said an earring works, which makes perfect sense, as many earrings are made of 20 gauge wire. 👍🏻
