I find it so funny that Germans developed a special non-magnetic coating on their tanks to prevent magnetic grenades from attaching, so the Allies in response just made explosives super sticky

I first learnt about the sticky bomb back in CoD World at War. I always find the British N74 Sticky Grenade unique due to the design and always wondered that if they actually use these during WW2 and does it always stick to everything ? (because in the game, it sticks to everything) and always wondered if its actually effective against armoured tanks and vehicles.

Actually the first time I heard of a sticky bomb was in Halo: Combat Evolved.

It literally landing on top of my head and all I could think in the two seconds was "what's this blue glow?" before basking in its fiery plasma-based glory.

There was an episode of Dad's Army where they were training with grenades and Jonsey tries to use a sticky bomb on a fake tank only to walk away still holding the bomb that is stuck to one of the binlids that made up the tank.

My Father was in the RAOC in the 1950’s and was tasked with disposal of these wretched objects. They were extremely dangerous even years later, and were intensely disliked by the end users.

When i was a young Boy Scout, one of the US Army vet parents gave us a US Army field manual. i believe it was a reproduction manual that contained sections from various eras, but it was full of all kinds of fund things. the parent pointed out that anything marked "field expedient" was usually something very interesting. he told us that anything "field expedient" was either something a solider did on the fly that made it into a report later, or something that egg heads thought up but was never tested.

My favorite was the field expedient MRE mine (or some similar name). It involved trapping the gas generated by a self heating MRE and using that as an explosive. And of course, there were a few stick mine or sticky bomb "recipes" in there. that book basically just led to us blowing things up and playing with fire and explosives and making tiny diorama sized booby traps

ps- I'd rather take my chances with a Molotov cocktail. I know which way my luck goes, I empathized _far_ too much with the unsuccessful sticky bomber in SPR.
