This reminds me of my Grandma Evelyn. I lost her 13 years ago when I was only 7. I'm gay and my family is very homophobic, and I feel like she is possibly the only one that would have loved me regardless. I still think about how different my life would have been if she was still alive and was there to nurture and love me growing up. She loved everyone unconditionally and I never once remembered her ever saying anything to intentionally hurt someone else. She was truly a beacon of love and compassion, and I'm proud to say that of all my grandparents I'm most like her.
