Excel calculate the Median IF - two methods | Function and PivotTable

Показать описание
I love the Median Function in Excel, but I want to use it conditionally. For example, I want to calculate the median salary of the Accounting department, or what is the median price of homes in Atlanta, GA?
If you want the average, Excel has AVERAGEIF, but there is no MEDIANIF in Excel. In this video, I will show two methods of calculating the Median IF. I'll also use the COUNT function and FORMULATEXT function plus the status bar to test.

Chapter:
0:00 Intro
0:30 AverageIF function
2:20 FormulaText function
2:40 Median & If Function
3:23 Test results
4:40 COUNT function
5:40 Issue with Median and IF
7:10 Create a Pivot Table

Thanks so much for your kind sharing, Chris! Saved a ton of timing by leveraging this self-made function in pivot table!

Best answer on this, especially with larger datasets. None of the other solutions via google search work. Thanks!

Hey Chris, Thank you for this video. This really helped me. I am in the midst looking for a job as data analytics. One of the assessments is to find the median of some data. I was struggling using Median if formulas then your video popped up when I search "how to" and it works magically... Thank you...

This was an excellent tutorial. Trying to do medians on salaries has always been such a pain so I am thrilled to have learnt something new. Have bookmarked this page so I can come back to it

Hi Chris, thanks a lot for this video. I've got one question regarding 8:05 - when I drag the column to Values tab, it shows Count only and not Sum with message showing can't show Sum as the column is in text format.. quite weird cause my excel data is all in numbers. Could you help on that please? Thanks.

Can you calculate the median of a column where two criteria have to be met. Say median of the sales where linked in is the source and single family was also true

Great video. What was the necessity/purpose of turning you data field into a Table first before doing the PivotTable. PT recognizes the range whether it's a table or not. Thanks!!

Nice video. It is amazing what can be done with the data model and a smattering of DAX code.

Can you tell me how I would do it if the data in column E were numbers instead? Ex.: LinkedIn=1, Google Ads=2, Meta=3.
