Why Biden's EV Tariffs Won't Stop Chinese Electric Vehicles

President Biden's administration imposed hefty tariffs on Chinese Electric Vehicles. These tariffs have effectively doubled the price of importing an EV from China into the United States. The move reflects deep concern within the American automotive industry and seen as a strategic attempt to protect American manufacturers and ensure fair competition in the Electric cars market.

Forget the consumer and the transition to zero emissions- HAHAHA. It's about protecting Corporations and the money they bribe politicians with. Crazy how things have changed. Remember when Japan kicked American Auto- what happened, American auto had to get better and compete. This is not happening anymore???

Out of the 300 car brands in China the subsidies got from the government has been less then what Austalia gave to GM (HOLDEN) alone from the AUSTRALIAN TAXPAYERS, yet they left production in 2017 and took our money. Keep in mind Australia only has a population of 25million.

Tariffs will only help China. Americans will buy them at that markup price and the quality will convince them it’s worth it. When the Tariffs are lifted the price won’t change and we will still be paying more for Chinese cars. It will also force American cars to sell at a lower price to compete. The fair market isn’t fair it seems. The loser is the American consumer that won’t get the value price of a cheaper quality product from China without paying extra to American government for the privilege.

Two possible ways around the 100% tariffs, according to lawyers are: First a lease-buyback contract could bypass the tariff. Second, an export to China offset could bypass the tariffs on imported Chinese EVs. And....maybe a third way. buying in Mexico or Canada which won't have the high tariffs, driving around in those countries so the car now becomes 'used' then brought into the US. European automakers did this to avoid high US tariffs in the past.

Using TARIFFS to stop your competitors is regarded as CHEAT MODE.
It won't work in international trade as this is not an arcade game but have earned disdain among the competitors. 🤔

The problem has nothing to do with Biden's tariffs. The problem is that CONSUMERS don't like the battery technology used in EVs. CONSUMERS demand safe, affordable, EV cars that are economically SAFE for environment. EVs made around the world, have not been able to safely resolve how to dispose of batteries full of harmful TOXIC RARE EARTH minerals. CONSUMERS do not want vehicles that are so expensive to repair, that insurance companies consistently TOTAL EVs for any problems with a battery. There are not enough qualified technicians outside of the manufacturing country's factories. Batteries that have the ability to electrocute CONSUMERS AND TECHNICIANS, are deemed to be TOO UNSAFE to OPERATE or REPAIR. EVs THAT COST MORE TO GET RID OF THAN THE PURCHASE PRICE ARE TOO EXPENSIVE TO OPERATE.

CONSUMERS ARE DEMANDING THAT A NEW TECHNOLOGY BE DEVELOPED BEFORE THEY ARE WILLING TO PURCHASE AN EV.

Interesting that US automakers welcomed the tariffs, European automakers had the opposite reaction on much lower tariffs. Perhaps US automakers are simply not as exposed to the Chinese market?

The EV market is at it's peak. It's a limited market. Used EV sales show EV's are a bad investment for most car owners
