"The Duel" is awesome, pretty Ennio Morricone inspired. I always remember that scene from my childhood.

In 1971 one of the most successful cartoon figures of the European continent, Lucky Luke was saddling up for his first adventure on the big screen under the thoughtful eyes of the original writer and artist René Goscinny and Maurice de Bevere (a.k.a. Morris). Goscinny, the man who made cartoons a serious topic in Europe with his sharp style of writing and wandering on the thin line between content for both children and adults, had a serious love for going to the cinema and coincidentally… John Ford productions. It was just natural to put his famous Cowboy to the big screen and take a seat in the director’s chair.
Composer Claude Bolling, who said that it was always a dream of his to write music for an animated production, was a very prominent musical figure at the time, too and it happened through his wife, that he met René Goscinny and very fast the basis was set for a very fruitful collaboration. In method of the Walt Disney Studios, Bolling contributed most of the music first, so animators could work out the drawings perfectly in sync. This gives the movie a huge musical freedom, which everybody would notice. Did you ever hear an animated movie with such a grand and complex score, songs and differences in style? The main song of the picture “I’m A Poor Lonesome Cowboy” was commissioned by Goscinny himself – he wanted a western song so badly and Bolling successfully created a very American tune with chorus and orchestra and to round it all up: Pat Wood with his unmistakable voice (wait for the ending and the growing arrangement of the song). Enjoy!
P.S.
I recommend this behind-the-scenes material, showing Claude Bolling working out the Saloon Song:

Hi Fred.
Ein sehr guter Komponist. ^_^
Es ist nur schade das es dieses Behind the Scenes Video nicht mit Untertiteln gibt. ^_^
Und es ist dir wirklich gelungen die wichtigen Teile des Scores sehr gut miteinander zu verweben. ^_^
Ich kannte bisher nur die Zeichentrick-Serie in der Freddy Quinn den Song I am a lonesome Cowboy auf deutsch singt. ^_^
Vielen Dank für diese Veröffentlichung. ^_^
Bis denne.

Nice one here Fred. I've never heard or heard of this before. Thanks for broadening our musical horizons.

An aside: Would you ever consider doing a suite for some Japanese TV/film composers? Yuji Ohno (Lupin III) and Yoko Kanno (LOTS of material esp, Cowboy Bebop and Escaflowne)
