You’re discussing a specific river with a large river valley. What about a huge river that effectively has no river valley? The one next to us has flooded so much that at normal levels you can see dry land in the middle of it, that’s how high the river bed has come up since the recent floods have contributed so much silt. Shouldn’t these river beds at least be dredged back to their levels from a decade or so ago when we had no flooding?

for rivers yeah. but in the case of a beach flooding from rainfall it's quite effective as it just washes into the ocean
