I once saw a balloon in the top of a tree. I quoted to my friend, "That's my soul up there. " He replied "What?!?!?". I returned "Not a fan of The Police, are you??"

Sting while going through a divorce conjured up all the metaphors of pain he could think of for this. And damn did he do a good job. Such a great song writer.

This song just describes perfectly what depression and anxiety feels like.

Sting certainly wasn't afraid of showing how tormented he felt inside, he's a lyrical genius!!

It is where I’m at right now, I’m a single man in my 60’s and I never imagined the way my life has turned out at this time of my life. I had it all wrong. the end of my life is coming closer and I don’t have any hope of making a good legacy.any one want to reach out I’ll be grateful.

My mom's dying of lung cancer right now. This song is really one of the only things bringing me a little solace right now. Thanks Sting. And to the band as well. I love you guys and anyone else listening to this to deal with pain.

My beloved wife (37) is terminal cancer patient and my world is in absolute darkness right now. There's nothing that can ease the pain in my soul and heart, but some things help. This song is like a paddle that I lost while kayaking in the stormy ocean and I unexpectedly retrieved it

Got brought to this song via the brief rendition of it for Faith: Chapter 3’s trailer. Can totally picture John singing this to himself sometime between the events of the chapters.

I used to babysit for a teacher and this was the only cassette that I would listen to. I absolutely love this song.

One of the greatest rock songs ever written. It's poetry really, that's been set to equally amazing music. One of my all time favorites. So evocative, that I in my mind, I can see a music video for it that has the images they describe playing in it. If I was any good at making videos, I'd make a version of it for all to see.

I love the, “Butterfly trapped in a Spider’s Web” quote! It definitely symbolizes how innocent someone is, until they fall into ann evil trap.

Addendum: Personally this is the BEST album in The Police's discography!

The entire "Synchronicity" Album is a work of pure genius ...
I first heard it on BBC Radio and immediately went out and bought the CD ...
The only other band that comes close is the Australian Band, Men At Work and the "Business as Usual" Album..
The Vocal ranges of Sting and Colin Hay are very similar... especially on my favorite track - "Down by the Sea"....😌🙏✨

Great song for when you need to wallow in it for a while and let it all out. The lyrics are poetry at its best. The music perfectly matched.

It takes you deep down into the abyss and when you're done singing along, it helps you to climb out again.

This song is deep. Great and very descriptive lyrics.

Sting's awesome throbbing bass playing is really evident in this song. It has that uber-tight-bouncy- note-for-note playing that he preferred to do compared to letting every note hum and sustain. It really locks into the groove. One of their best songs ever! 🤘⭐🍺
