Not me doing that on accident all the time because the volume knobs on strats are peak inconvenience

You can also solder a capacitor to the volume knob's potentiometer to get the treble bleed mod.

When I saw Van Halen play in 2007, Eddie was doing some crazy stuff with swells, and the volume knob during his solos, really inspiring stuff

That’s why Eddie used his V knob as a TONE knob, it’s not hard but some people make things difficult, I’m no EVH, but then again, I’m no slouch, jam on my friends 🤘🏼

For the most part, my volume knob is a kill switch. “On” for shred, “Off” for beer.

Nice. I'll be implementing this in my practice.

Tony Iommi would play his riff with the volume on 8 but for the leads he would bump it up to 10. That’s a fun way to make your leads stand out.

So true, especially with PRS guitars, you can alter the tone dramatically with the volume knob. Once I learned that, I loved my PRS ever since

I modified my Ibanez
It has only one pickup and one volume knob.
Now it has one pickup and an on/off switch. That's it

Learned this months ago, this really made my plays sound way cleaner too, just using it basically as a built in noise gate

Huge key here is having an amp that responded to a volume knob. If you have gear that does this well, you can be like me, who uses essentially what is a single channel amp and my clean, overdrive, and high gain leads are all just a change of a volume knob. This keeps you from constantly screwing around with your amps gain too, as you can just adjust how much distortion you want at your fingers. The cleans, if you have the right amp/overdrive, are beautiful clean, pristine and cut through a mix amazingly.

Digital can do this pretty well too. If you have a HX stomp or helix, use the placater dirty amp (it’s a faithful model of a Friedman). It responds to a volume knob amazingly (just adjust the noise gate on the pedal accordingly).

Yea that’s why I love evh’s Wolfgang’s no friction v knob with a high friction tone knob leaves u with some fun things to experiment with

I find having a high gain/metal amp tone, combo'd with about medium on the pickup volume knob really helps give clarity to the tone without taking out much aggression

Its so good for when you are playing hard chords vs single notes, volume is essential

Your guitar's volume and tone knobs are the ultimate drive controls 🤘

that's actually one of the first things my guitar teacher taught me about when we started talking about the actual electrical mechanisms of a guitar :)

I sometimes turn the volume close to off in overdrive for a dirty/clean melodic tone. As well as controlling sustain

It’s been 30 yrs but back in the day I used my guitar volume exactly as seen here…BUT also had a Mu-Tron optical volume pedal at the end of my signal chain just before my amp. That allowed me to drive or not drive my pedals harder from the guitar, and then drive or not drive the amp harder from the floor. Very useful.

I like to put the pickup selector on my LP in the center, roll the tone all the way back on the neck pickup & dial the volume back until the bridge pickup is carrying most of the signal. It kind of puts melodic distortion into soft focus if you will, fuzzing it up a bit.
