I love making big bowls. But glazing them can be quite a challenge.

In this video I will talk about the different ways you can glaze big bowls - or any big pottery, and show you how I do it using a combination of spray glazing and brush glazing.

Even with the small crack, the large bowl was stunning! If anything, the black 'starfire' rim and the way the glaze flowed into it added something that otherwise wouldn't have occured. One of those happy accidents. 👍

Oh gosh, I learn at least one new thing every time I watch one of your videos. Those bowls are absolutely beautiful! You are so talented and so creative. I sure appreciate you sharing everything you do.

You are "dabbing" the glaze on the rim. Both bowls are stunning; the crack in the one doesn't detract from its beauty. When I make something big, I use damp paper towel and plastic to cover it; not having a fancy damp room with adjustable humidity, and that has worked, gives it more time, less shock, as you said. I also generally have a "mold" of sorts that I'm making the dish on/over, so it's supported as it dries, as I hand build, that might not be something that works for you. Thanks so much for the video. I agree with Margot, a DIY spray booth is in order, lol Take care, be well

I loaded my 2 biggest bowls ever into my kiln tonight. The waiting is not fun. Fingers crossed they come out half as good as your beautiful bowls did. Great job!!

Thank you so much for this fantastic video! The bowls turned out absolutely breathtaking 🤩🤩 Many professional ceramist use spray gun. Well, Im far from being a professional, but playing with the idea to buy a compressor and a spray gun. I checked the market, oh boy, there is so many different characteristics of the compressor and the spray guns. I was wondering, maybe you can do a video how to choose what to buy for potters? 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Another excellent video. I got a lot of ideas just with your brush work. Surprised you did not wear a mask when spraying. Was that because you were outdoors? Couldn’t tell which way the wind was blowing…. :)

Really lovely Mikkel. I’ve got some large bowls to glaze! I have glazed one and wasn’t that pleased with the glaze covering, but it did sell so I’m just being picky ! Was your spray gun experience? As it’s so much quicker 😊 I love the floating blue, I would like to make some of my own, but really need guidance with the measurements from percentages ?

I just watched your video. It was great. Can you tell me which Floating Blue recipe you use, it doesn’t have the red iron oxide colour of the recipe I use. I am curious.

I have trouble with warping on these wide bowls. How do you prevent that?
