US New B-1B Lancer After Upgrade Shocked The World

The B-1B Lancer bomber has been a staple of the US Air Force for decades now but this formidable aircraft is receiving upgrades that will take a cornerstone of U.S. aerial strategy into modern warfare. This once-nuclear bomber is now in ride-or-die mode and the Air Force has chosen to ride once more.

I watched a Lancer do its thing at the Melbourne Australia Air Show a few years back. It's an incredible machine to see and hear in flight and on the ground, it is pure menace to look at.

The US needs to manufacture about 1200 new B1B's, with all the upgrades included. Call it the B1C. They are the most beautiful aircraft in the inventory in my opinion.

The B1 was intended to replace the B-52, which it did not. The B2 was intended to replace the B-52, it did not. The B-52 remains the one aircraft every adversary of the United States fears, as it will get the mission done and bring the pain.

An amazing piece of technology that should be kept on hand and available as another tool with unique features and qualities that should be kept available for as long as possible because we have already paid to design and develop and build the thing and we already understand very thoroughly. The B1B is now a useful aircraft, but it was a wretched example of fielding a new aircraft. For most of its first two decades, whenever we had operations where it would be useful, it was grounded due to serious maintenance issues. Instead, we continued to use the B52
which is may, if they keep extending the service life, may be the first combat aircraft to be in operation for a century. (of course, the original B52 airframes are mostly long gone, but the last were manufactured decades later.)

Great video! There hasn't been much press on the B-1B vs the B-52, B-2s, and gunships in our recent wars. Glad to see the history, story and upgrade. I'm surprised Biden didn't cancel it like Carter. ;-)

Imagine a version of this aircraft carrying small, unmanned fighter aircraft.

Since unmanned aircraft are much maneuverable, they’d come in handy defending a bomber fleet.

Swing wing technology was abandoned after the 1980's as the emphasis on stealth characteristics impacted modern military aviation design. These upgrades to the Lancer are more reflective, perhaps, of its initial very significant purchase price and its still useful ability to deliver large payloads in lower level regional conflicts where there is limited enemy air detection capabilities or opposing air defenses. You don't retire billion dollar airplanes without a good reason. Nonetheless, in many respects the airplane is already obsolescent. Its a 40 year old design based upon a now redundant air power strategy. Certainly an amazing airplane in its day.
