THIS is why we need physical stores and why they are NOT obsolete.

I was in a movie store one time, and I over heard a young lady (talking loudly and proudly) that her boyfriend does this.

This is why you always check first before you take it home and put it in your DVD player

Fit CCTV on the machines and when a scam happens investigate it.

The problem is that RedBox uses barcodes to track the discs, so anybody with a scanner and a printer can easily dupe the machine

A better idea would be to use RFID tracking, being that RFID is basically a radio signal, it can't be copied optically like barcodes, meaning that in order to copy a an RFID chip, you need a RFID scanner/reader and an RFID burner/writer in order to copy it, not to mention RFID chip media to write to, while the technology is widely available to average consumers (easily purchased at a hobbiest or specialty electronics stores like RadioShack or Micro Center), it is still pretty pricey (RFID kits are around $60), and most writable RFID tags are in key fob or card form, which may not fit in RedBox caddies, and those willing to attempt it would be better off making bootleg copies of the movie/game anyway

I wonder if this is part of the reason why Redbox doesn't do games anymore.

Thing is, the paper idea is pure genius, at least it was before people started crying about it, no it's not fair but when you have a company like Redbox that allows you to rent games for 3 dollars you had to see something like this happen sometime down the line

It’s happened to me twice. Redbox was pretty cool about it and gave me a refund plus credit for a free rental. Apparently this happens all the time

this happened back in 2012 too

just happened to me this year and has happened 5 times before. redbox will NOT fix this.
go to redbox.com, message customer service and tell them you got scammed. ask them can they give you 2 free game days. this is important.

And this is why they got rid of video game rentals

Can’t figure out who did this, based on who is the previous person that rented that video? And block their credit cards in the future.

Get rid of Redboxes and bring back Blockbuster.

The guy has a good point, it's not reboxes fault, it's the people that are scummy untrustworthy fucks that are 100% at fault. The best thing RB can do is moderate their boxes regularly to make sure this garbage is pulled out asap.

Maybe they should add a weight sensor to the kiosk or have a disc drive in the kiosk that can extract the discs and run a checksum on it to give it a real or fake test.
