Two CPUs in one? | Ryzen 9 7900X3D

Testing the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D 12-core 24-thread CPU in 10 popular and demanding games in 2024, using an RX 7900 XT discrete GPU and Asus Strix X670E-F motherboard.

With the success of AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X3D, it was only natural that they would find ways of including 3D V-cache in more and more CPUs over time. The result of this rush to add X3D to more high-ticket SKUs resulted in the existence of the Ryzen 9 7900X3D - a weird hybrid of a 12-core productivity CPU, and a 6 core gaming chip. Is this a worthy all-rounder, or does it fall short of the mark on both fronts?

Well 2 weeks ago i bought a 7900x3d for $279 at Newegg brand new with a promo code and at that price there was nothing better. The performance has been amazing and is a huge upgrade over my ryzen 5 1600 that i had for over 6 years.

00:42 - At this point, it would've been neat if you slowly turned the "9" in 7900x3D, to a "6" and add a question mark at the end...maybe faze the other "9" to a "5"

seeing the channel grow from prehistoric intels celerons and pentiums to the high end intel and ryzen parts its somewhat wholesome, and yes we come to this channel cos of budget parts to see what we can scrap to seeing new technology and etc. Awesome work and keep going doing what u like :D

I purchased a 7900x3d for $299 open box about a year ago. These are so unloved they reach unbelievably low prices. Its an unbeatable value proposition.

I sense a "Video editing on AMD. One month on the 7900x3d" video coming :D

I bought a 7900x3D on release, coming from a 5800X I absolutely couldn't stand how hard it was to keep an 8 core CCD cool, definitely not disappointed with it. Once the 9000 series x3D chips drop, I'll probably upgrade, and side the 7900x3D into a server role.

I actually got this for 329 USD, cheaper than the 7800x3d. Totally worth it. I just manually turn off cores in task manager with processor affinity if Im having issues, but Ive only had issues with rnning and playing on a minecraft server. This thing is a beast.
Update:
Just finished the video, I'm also running a 7900xt!!! That is too good that he used it as a benchmark gpu for it. Got the 7900xt from someone in town brand new for only 500 USD, I was bargain hunting 😂

6:41 after the release of CS2, Source 2 engine is not using your all cores in default. You should've used your thread count +1 to match available thread pool in Source 2. For example "-threads 17" for 8 cores 16 threads cpu's.

I love the peaceful song that always plays at the start of your videos

I'm highly impressed with how efficient the 7900xt is. The 7900x3d is a nice CPU for the right price.

In early 2024 I was looking for an AM5 CPU. The 7900X3D was easily the best choice for me when it was was briefly priced on Amazon less than the 7800X3D ($388USD). I am a photographer/videographer and a gamer.

5:44. You state on screen that your data is generated on a completely different graphics card. We are left to assume then that it was generated at a different time and was likely using different game versions, bios versions, memory kit and timings, different motherboards, windows versions...

I guess I am just used to the thoroughness of HUB. But honestly this seems like very non comparable data.

At 2:20 you typed that the one ccd had 64gb of l3cache, btw great video, i wish you the best

Had the 7900X3D for almost a year and a half now. Upgraded from the 5800X3D. The 8 cores were a bit sluggish when multitasking so, I decided to go for 12. No performance issues whatsoever.

I just got one on the big sale...seemed perfect for me. I was using a 12600k, and although it was pretty capable still gaming, when gaming + streaming, and other productivity purposes, wasn't cutting it. The 7900X3d seems great for this mixed with the other odd task

I recently bought the 7900X3D as it was on sale for ~50€ more than the 7800X3D (and still >150€ less than the 7950X3D). I am running a second gaming PC as a VM through Hyper-V which is streamed to the other users laptop, sharing my 6900XT between both systems and was even able to run 3x Baldurs Gate 3 in FHD just fine (the GPU being the limiting factor). Since I mostly bought used (except for the CPU and power supply) and reused some old case and SSDs I managed to essentially build 2 AM5 gaming PCs (one bare metal, one virtual) for less than 500€ each.

Is the 7900X3D a bit slower when compared neck-to-neck to the 7800X3D? Sure. But being able to run 2 or even 3 PCs on one CPU while also having the highest available singlecore Performance for certain memory-access-heavy games at this low of a price point is amazing.
