I have less problems nowadays at this junction keeping flow with the parked obstructions. Are people learning or is it this particular area is becoming well known from my videos?

Every time I'm in a situation where a merge in turn will be happening, I hear Ashley's voice in my head saying "staggered formation" to let them fit in one at a time 😂

Bloody hell! I don’t even live anywhere near Liverpool, but the amount of times I see this road, I feel it has come part of my commute 😂😂

Good one, like you I always give a wave when it's merited.

I liked the drum beat intro at the beginning. It's as though you were saying to us "Now watch this folks. I've got something of interest that's about to unfold, so pay attention ".

The pleasure at a merge-in-turn is actually letting people merge in turn. That small percentage who get ornery don't half create unnecessary delays and dare I say mild but unnecessary anxiety.
Seeing the wave of acknowledgement is always welcome as the 'facilitator', and to be encouraged in the merger. It's just good manners and helps us all rub along nicely. Believe it or not, American visitors actually comment on drivers doing that here, even in cities.

Its the amount of drivers that are in Ashleys position that are not prepared to concede early if the vehicle in the other lane wont let them merge.
I find if the first vehicle wont and accelerates to stop you, the second or third will let you merge. It is just a matter of being slow enough and being ready to take another gap.

To many drivers fight over the one space feeling the need to be in that space and that causes further congestion as cars behind might need to stop and the consetina effect happens.

I've often found indicating a bit before the merge seems to result in me being let in a lot more often, along with a nice, positive speed and a quick thank you afterwards. I feel it encourages people to leave space more often and also rewards good driving!

I have multiple merge in turns on my commuter route so have done it hundreds of times. I have found that the majority let you in (as I would let them in) if you don't take the **** and keep a good speed. The ones that get me are the drivers who bully their way on at a slip road or merge, but they refuse to repay the favour for other drivers. But that's modern Britain now, isn't it.

That notification ping at 1:10 was a perfect sound for how well that went!

At the Quy Interchange just east of Cambridge there's a merge in turn, but because the two lanes are fed from different exits on the roundabout, and perhaps because it's a bit of a blind curve, people have always naturally queued in both lanes without ever feeling like they're "queue jumping". Apart from a few "must get ahead"s, it's pretty much been perfect merging in turn.

People seem to be pretty good with letting me merge nowadays - but, still, they queued alongside an empty lane, for some reason.

Funnily enough there are roadworks happening just off the J4 sliproad on the M2. Everyone just queues without using both lanes on the approach, and when you get to the lane closure everybody is hell-bent on asking 100 yards away from the closure. I just drive all the way to the divert arrow and fit in nicely because that's what you're supposed to do.

Those who bully others because they think others are queue-jumping need to get off of the roads.

Go to London and 80% of drivers will cut in regardless.
*The first de-facto rule is:* Let one in in front of you, have another one try to cut in as well.
Had a few moments when someone got upset because I only allowed one vehicle to go in front of me.
*The other de-facto rule is:* If you cut in, I won't let you, if you also merge in turn, I will let you!

A merge in turn with Ashley is like a Gandalf corner with Mikey (your new best mate) - channel staples that cause wondrous mayhem

Thankfully no such issues this time!

Sadly in my experience the number of drivers allowing me to successfully merge in turn seems to be dwarfed by the number of drivers who will instead aggressively accelerate to close the gap and/or beep the horn

Heard your right (presumably) signal going, and i'm not talking about the lip smacking 🙂 so I reckon in that case, if I was in the white car I would be on the side of the percentage to allow the merge, especially when I see the car to the left leaving a gap, indicating that they want to carry on, and not follw the cars turning left, then realise they have to merge on my lane because of parked cars on the lane past the junction.

A wave of thank you as a way of positive reinforcement of doing something right. Too much reprimanding horn use and shouting these days

There are three types of driver at a merge in turn. Those that see a merge in turn and accomodate, those that see people queue jumping and will close the gap and then a very small percentage that have no idea what is in front of them and just point and go.

The second group are the horrid drivers however the latter are the worst for keeping flow as they have no idea what they are doing and generally get all confused when you think they are a space closer so slow down but they slow down with you. Or they tag behind amd then get all narked when the merge arrives and they haven’t got space with a lorry next to them

In congestion when I see my lane is merging in 800 yards and all the vehicles in front are desperately moving over I laugh to myself as I pass 700+ yards of traffic jam to then merge.

At around 0:21 you make an interesting point re "I can understand why it would put people off from doing the correct thing". I've had similar merge in turn situations whereby I am virtually the only vehicle legitimately using the empty lane...and I have to convince myself I'm doing the correct thing. Plus I'm wondering what sort of "aggro" might I get when I actually merge up ahead. As in this video, I'm very often pleasantly surprised. Maybe it's the way I ultimately merge, by not rushing up to the merge point but rather, politely and gently cruising up to it. And maybe merging at a point where I'm conceding to one or two vehicles even though I could have tried in front of them. And putting on a begging signal rather than trying to aggressively barge in. It's almost as though I try to make it look as though I feel sorry for myself! I think also it helps to drive a fairly conservative looking car. Still not sure if having a car decorated with Canadian flags also helps. It's certainly an extra reason why I'm always on my best behavior! 🇨🇦
