The history of Santa Maria del Fiore - The birthplace of the Renaissance

Florence is already a city known around the world for its vast artistic and architectural beauty and as the capital of the region of Tuscany. The city is most famous in historical and art circles as being the birthplace of the Renaissance movement which swept across Europe, with the main goal of the movement being to revitalise and improve on the classical arts and architecture of the ancient Romans and Greeks.
One of the first big, and arguably most important, focuses of the Renaissance was on the cathedral of the city of Florence, with that cathedral being the Santa Maria Del Fiore, which still remains the most iconic site in Florence and one of the most recognisable buildings on the European continent.
In this video, I will delve in to the construction history of the cathedral, as well as give background information on various different art pieces scattered around the cathedral.
