"Chug it down"

MY BROTHER IN CHRIST

I rather a different version of this called a Buddy Burner. For those who never made a buddy burner stove and fuel cell, its about as simple as this but larger. Using some old metal coffee cans for the outer housing and cut holes for ventilation in the bottom and a larger entry way to put the fuel cell. The fuel cell uses any small can/tin like the bottom of a soda can or tuna can. Coil up threads of cardboard to pack as tightly as possible. Following this you pour some wax over the cardboard to lengthen the burn duration. As an added bonus with a cardboard egg carton you can take that same wax and dryer lint to make fire starters to get a stove or campfire started.

Overall I like these more as the fuel cells with some good flower pots can heat a large area but for a stove the surface area is really good and can use a typical mess kit for a personal meal. Storage and transport is easy as nothing is volatile and once cooled you have solid fuel cells. On top of it the system is very reusable and easy to cook with.

I remember watching a tutorial many years ago that saved my stomach on more than one occasion.

Main difference I would like to point out is that in that video, the person who did the tutorial, bent the top aluminum can with the dull part of a knife to create indentations along it (vertically and about 1½ inches of separation between each indentation). That solves the bottom-can tear issue.

Top tip, the skinny 12oz beer cans are a slightly larger diameter than the 12 oz energy drink or soda cans. the combination of the two will fit super tight without creasing. Bottoms Up!

I saw a video that used Arizona tea cans crimping in one of them and it didn't split also used a sponge to meter the burn hole in the center with a penny to cover it

Fill bottom of one can with plaster of Paris. To use two cans of same diameter, heat one with a propane torch then stuff the plastered can in it. Now one can is slightly larger than the other: no tearing when you assemble them.

There is the easiest way to do this with three cans that I've never seen anybody else but me do, but it's so simple somebody has to have thought of it.

I use the Arizona sweet tea cans and they dont split if you keep them around one inch of straight sidewall, and sand off the paint and finish. The center hole only needs to be big enough to add fule.. So small enough that you can use a penny as the valve, and fill it with fiberglass so it burns longer with less fule.

POV: you came directly to comments after you heard “chug it”🤣🤣

When you cut it in half take some needle nose pliers and crimp the cut edge before you slide them together

I used 90% of what you said but usually just put a penny over the center hole because the copper allows for a better burn ratio

I used a stove like this every night and morning on a cross country bike trip. A couple tips: two of the same size can can slip together without splitting if you get one half really cold and one half really hot. The best cans we found to use were Fosters. The size, obviously, but also it felt like slightly thicker metal. I never tried a soup can base though.

One thing you can do to prevent the splitting from occurring is to crimp the bottom can. It will made the diameter smaller so that the two identical cans can fit together.

To solve the "same size can problem" take a multitool or pliers (or fingers) and basically crimp the edge and make like a wavy pattern (on the edge of the can being inserted) This narrows the circumference to allow them to fit together without splitting. I literally just finished one about 5 mins ago... That being said I like the soup can method. Seems like slightly less work lol
