Cemetery forgets to dig grave during funeral

A family was unable to bury their loved one after a cemetery forgot to dig the grave.

As a licensed funeral director for 34 years, I've always made it a habit to double/triple check with the cemetery/grave service company, AND personally go to the cemetery, prior to the service to make sure this has been completed! A funeral director should go check, or send someone from the funeral home, to check (if at all possible)... this way, this situation won't happen to a family. Very sad indeed. My condolences to this family.

Jimmy will never be forgotten. Digging his grave was, but Jimmy won't be. Whenever I go to a loved one's funeral I also wear my best t-shirt and do rag!

When my mom passed the funeral home still had the tag dangling off the handle on her casket as they took her out of the hearse. Then the military men folding her flag (she was a veteran) could not get it right. They slid their hands up and down the flag three times before they got their hands in the right place to fold. Frankly, my family laughed hysterically. My mom would have loved it. Everyone deals with grief differently. While we were devastated to lose mom, we laughed at the humor we felt was a gift.

My pap’s funeral was today so I’ve been binging a lot of funeral related content to cope. He lived such a full life and had so much impact on mine. I’m going to miss him dearly

Why's everyone commenting on their clothing choices? It's their decision, and perhaps the deceased as well. Not all people like to be extreme and dress up in all black and suits for a funeral. Maybe this is their way of coping. Geez.

Now that's a story to and they dug as fast as they could.... and I'm sure dad's up in heaven having a good laugh at this!!! He looked like a man with a great sense of humor!!! May our Good Lord ease 🙏 your pain!!!

This happened with my grandmother. My uncle was in charge of taking care of all of that and he was too drunk to even go to the funeral, much less pay for someone to dig a hole. One of her brothers had to get a backhoe and dig it himself. You don’t know pissed until you’ve had a dead loved one disrespected like that.

This happened to my mother in 2011 here in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the mount Calvary cemetery. It was horrible they sent my mother back to the morgue for another night so that they could did the new hole we all had to go the next day to actually lay her to rest and not everyone could be there it was very heart breaking 😞

What amazed me was not that they forgot to dig the grave its that the family forgot to get dressed for the funeral. Its not a damn cookout. Geez... Rest in peace though.
