When the market closes at 4 p.m. Eastern, that’s when after-hours trading begins. It runs until 8 p.m. But this only applies to stocks listed on the NYSE and Nasdaq. You can’t trade OTCs after hours.

First things first ... If you trade after hours, you’ll see some extreme moves. That doesn’t mean you can’t make the trades. But proceed with caution! Like all trading — without the proper knowledge and experience — after-hours trading can be risky.

(Check out the video for an example of a stock that spiked 300% in just two days!)

The biggest thing you should look for is a low-float stock that’s making big moves. It should break its previous morning’s high of day. You also wanna see insane volume and a large float rotation.

In heavily shorted stocks, you wanna look for panic points … That’s where you know shorts will probably lose — they have unlimited potential for losses. That can give you a higher certainty that they’ll cover into these higher day breaks.

Add all these components together, and that’s a great potential entry.

Extreme volatility can be scary. But you can see the opportunity when it breaks. You get a big candle, and it pulls back a few cents … Then another big candle, and so on. While no trade is easy, these can be easier to spot and trade. You probably won’t get spooked or stopped out.

Line it all up. Look for the insane volume, the news, the big breaks. But remember, you won’t see these opportunities every day. If you want to exclusively trade after-hours, you’ll struggle.

Take your personal schedule into account too. These are volatile stocks, and they move quickly. You need to be on standby to watch them. You don’t want to end up stuck in a wild trade.

Don’t get too aggressive and always trade safe!

How often do you trade after hours? What do you think? Is it too stressful or do you love it?

Because of my work schedule After Hours is all I can do. Scanning for after-hours gainers of over 8% and putting in Buy Orders to trigger as soon as the market opens works more times than it doesn't. Especially if I stay away from the lower-priced lower quality companies.

Was wondering, if you sold a stock during after hours, would you lose the trade at the rate indicate when the market closed, the rate during the after hour or the new rate the stock will open the next day with? For example a stock closed at 100, you placed the order during after hours when it went down to 98 and next day it opens at 95. Which rate would your trade close at?

After hours has more often than not been my bread and butter since June. Taking a HOD break in after has been a consistent indicator that it will at least run a good 15% in the next day pre market. It's PDT friendly for my small account.

I buy after hours on Friday stocks that closed near high of the day with catalyst, volume, news and low float. I sell on Monday for 20-30 percent up!

I've seen so many stocks spike after hours and I think wow if I bought it after hours and sold morning open, it's huge gains, never done it, but I see a lot of movers, just curious, always trying to learn something new.

Thanks!
Great video. I have a question. I recently bought CWH and it was on the up and up but Friday in AH it went down. Do the after hours trends affect people to buy or sell on Monday. It hit a 52 week high on Friday so it’s confusing why it would be going down. I dont wanna lose money so I may sell on Monday’s open but I’m hoping it rallies back up
