Celadon - Generative Modular Sounds - 20min

Experience a 20-minute soothing journey of ambient sound, titled "Celadon" running autonomously on my modular. For the first time, I've left the confines of my home studio, creating this piece surrounded by the verdant greenery of a vibrant indoor jungle. This lush backdrop is the beautiful creation of Repot co-founders, Lamine and Mona, two plant-lovers residing in Hackney Wick.

This is generative music, an intriguing technique where music evolves and unfolds in real-time, based on a set of pre-determined rules and algorithms. It is not explicitly programmed note by note, but grows organically, just like the exquisite surroundings it was created in.

Diving into the patch notes:

Mutable Instruments' Beads is responsible for the space-age sounds you'll hear. Bathed in reverb and triggered by Befaco's Burst, it creates an ethereal sonic backdrop, reminiscent of the mystery and grandeur of the cosmos.

Pamela's New Workout from ALM Busy Circuits acts as the maestro, managing all clock-related tasks and ensuring the harmonious interaction of all elements in the setup.

The bassline is crafted by the 4ms Ensemble, sequenced by Erica Synths' Pico Seq. Together, they form the foundation of the soundscape, providing a deep rhythmic pulse that carries the composition.

Rings from Mutable Instruments, typically known for emulating struck and plucked materials, has a unique job in this piece. It's excited by a Japanese TV broadcast, adding a layer of unexpected chatter and melody, fusing the familiar with the unfamiliar.

The generative melodies emerge from Marbles and Plaits, both from Mutable Instruments, adding further complexity and evolving melodics to the composition. The melodies they generate are as unpredictable and beautiful as the jungle surrounding me.

To bring an additional layer of ambiance, I've run the entire mix through Teenage Engineering's TX-6. This reverb-rich module gives the composition a final coat of sonic varnish, adding depth and expansiveness to the soundscape.
