This webinar is the first in the series "Rethinking Data Governance: Exploring alternative ways to handle 'our' data" co-organized by the Innovation Team at UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub (IRH) and the Regional Innovation Centre at UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub (BRH),with the support of the Rockefeller Foundation and the Government of Slovakia.

Background:
Over the past several months, not only have we experienced how vulnerable our social, economic, and health systems are, but also how our current mechanisms, institutions, and governance systems have fallen short in being able to handle our data.

The COVID-19 pandemic has raised the big questions of the data age we live in, from "Who gets to have a say in how data is collected/used/shared?", to "When data is shared- for what type of decision-making, and to what end?" We need to find answers if we want to uncover and utilize the true value of data. We need to rethink data governance.

As UNDP is developing its own global data strategy, we organize this webinar series to explore how we can go beyond the conventional approaches, and explore how alternative forms of data governance can be used by UNDP, its partners, and the development sector at large.
