Stalin's Bunker Buster, The Story of the KV-2 | Cursed By Design

For a machine that has become nearly as iconic to tank fans as the world famous Tiger, T-34, or Sherman, the history behind the glorious KV2 has remained out of the direct spotlight in most history documentaries and books. Today, however, we’ll finally shine a light onto one of the most bizarre and beloved tanks to ever exist.

When one considers that the German armored units at the start of Barbarossa were using Pz IIs, Pz IIIs, and 38ts, any version of the KV would have seemed like a monster.

They designed a full blown tank faster than it takes me to finish one homework assignment

This tank makes any WoT game a point and click adventure. You aim, you shoot, you kill, you die because it takes half a minute for you to reload

I love the fact that this dude that dedicates his videos to researching tanks actually acknowledged the KV-2's nickname "The Russian Death Fridge".

Not gonna lie, I fuckin love the KV-2. I have zero good reason for it besides one thing. I love the fact they took what was already a difficult tank to kill and then putting a huge "fuck you" gun on it resulting in a goofy, but terrifying tank. This and the BT-7 are my favs.

Love how he references World of Tanks several times and then the game footage he includes is from War Thunder. Nice touch.

Dispite all its flaws, the kv-2 still is one of my personal favorite tanks of all time. There is just something kinda intimidating about this massive beast with a 152mm death launcher.

How is the KV-2 cursed by design? It's clearly perfect in every way with its impenetrable armor, 150kph top speed, 2000mm APHEFSDS, and 30mm GAU-8 Avenger Cannon as its coaxial.

Dzhugashvilli's fridge, bringing ice cold 152mm bottles of vodka to the frontlines.

The "Monster of Raseiniai" is one of my top favorite WW2 stories. It's one of those stories that just fascinates me to no end. A single tank holds an important road all by itself for a day is incredible, especially if the tank was a KV-2, which i am more inclined to believe as 6 bodies were recovered from the tank, which the KV-1 could not hold. Truly a significant story of patriotism, honor, and fighting spirit that should never be forgotten.

I love playing as the KV-1 in War Thunder. I spent the entire match being shot at and bombarded by artillery. The only damage I took was to the tracks, which got shot off about five times each.

What a lovely video! Great work!

The KV-2 is by far my favourite tank and you brought him great honour during the documentation.
This tank was truely cursed by it's design and also a great show-case why you never rush the development of a weapon. In the end you will cause more problems then you will solve with it!

That was pretty good, but I do miss "Oh Bugger! The tanks on fire!!!"

In War Thunder, we called it "King of Derp", "Derp Gun/Tank", "Soviet Fridge"... but the OG War Thunder fans knows that it's called, the "1 Hit Meme Machine".

I love this video. I’ve probably watched this video at least 4 times. It’s a perfect blend of comedy and documentary level information
