I've noticed a lot of comments regarding our decision to write Valeria and Hope as Italian, instead of Greek, like many Fortnite Lore Theorists have decided on. I'm going to address that now.

I made the decision to write them as Italian due to nearly half the current island having clear Italian Influences- the Chapparal region itself resembles the coastline of Italy, Piazza is the Italian word for Plaza, Fencing Fields is clearly based on Italy's famous winemaking region of Tuscany, and Ritzy Riviera is inspired by the real world Riviera, part of which is in Italy.

However, I will acknowledge that there is also plenty of evidence to them being Greek, as the Theorists have said, such as the nods to Greek Mythology in Valeria's cosmetics set and books, and the homes in Reckless Rails being based off Greek Architecture.

That being said, it's also important to remember that the Ancient Greeks and the Ancient Romans of Italy shared the same mythology. They just had different names for the same Gods, etc.

According to one of our editors who's studied Greek Myth and history,
"In the Aeneid, the survivors of Troy travel to Italy and establish the Roman Empire, Troy wasn’t technically part of Greece but they worshipped the same gods and practiced the same customs. Some of the heroes of Troy were also demigods descended from the Olympians like Aeneas and Sarpedon."

Ruined Reels, for example, could be based off of Greek ruins, but they also greatly resemble Roman ruins as well, because the Romans based their architecture off the Greek style.

So, in my opinion, it's fine, and makes perfect sense for Valeria and Hope to be Italian.

However, I have decided to reach a bit of a compromise. I'm going to establish that the sisters had a Greek grandparent on their Italian parent's side, so that while they come from Italy, they are descended from Greeks. I hope people will accept this canon for our stories.

Our stories are inspired by Fortnite's Lore and storyline, but they are not always going to be 100% bound to it, as much of it is often left to fan interpretation. Please understand that while we try our best to stick to what's established, we will occasionally have to fill in the blanks ourselves and may slightly deviate from what might be canon as a result.
