Edward Blickstein writes, "He (Pachmann) plays it ( Mazurka Brillante) as if it were a masterpiece, with a rhythmic sparkle and animation. He really believed in this music, and makes the listener believe in it too, despite the fact that this is one of the master's lesser works." (Note the judicious use of the pedal. . Most pianists today would use, unfortunately, far more.)

Maybe not a first-rate Liszt piece indeed, but certainly top-grade playing by Pachmann...such a delightful lilt and touch!

it's always very hard to tell whether pedalling was deliberately adjusted for the recording process at this time :/ Wonderful 19th C mazurka rhythms though!

Is this an acoustic recording or a piano roll transfer to 78rpm?
