Indian social media platforms have become home to staged videos that spread hatred and disinformation about the Muslim community. Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in 2014, there has been a rise in Hindu nationalism and social media experts say platform loopholes are fuelling negative sentiments towards the over 200 million Muslims living in India.

What is it with people and their obsession with hate? Let Muslims be Muslims. Christians be Christians. Minorities be free and safe to be who they are. No need to stir chaos and paint any of them in a negative light.

Hatred only lead to other form of hatred. And that becomes a cycle.

If you feel hateful about something, start with yourself. Purge those hatred in your heart and be a better human being. With less hate, the world will be a much better place.

Most countries have laws to deal with hate speech and spreading rumours. Section 153A of the Indian penal code prohibits citizens from creating disharmony or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will between different groups of people.[2]. That such laws are not used is not surprising considering that politicians, including Modi himself will not speak out, much less take action. It is all about not angering supporters and losing votes. If I am not mistaken, the police will only act when orders come from the very top but nobody has the political will to do what is right.
