A Schuman Conversation on 'The Biden Presidency: Resetting Transatlantic Relations'
Показать описание
The Robert Schuman Centre is honoured to host a Conversation on priorities for transatlantic relations under the Biden Presidency. During the Trump Presidency transatlantic relations deteriorated as Europe was confronted with a President in the White House who did not value America’s oldest allies or transatlantic relations. His “America First” policy was at odds with the multilateralism of the EU and NATO. Joe Biden’s arrival in the White House offers a unique opportunity to reset relations and rebuild trust amongst allies. This Conversation aims to assess how the relationship may be renewed so that it is sufficiently robust to address current global challenges. What will a Biden Presidency expect of its European allies and can Europe deliver? Our three speakers, Anthony Gardner, David O’Sullivan, and Stephanie Hoffman, have been deeply immersed in the art and craft of relations between Europe and the US. Stephanie Hoffman teaches at the Geneva Graduate Institute where she focuses on European/Transatlantic security, and the links between regional economic & security cooperation. Anthony Gardner was US Ambassador to the European Union from March 2014 to the end of the Obama Administration. David O’Sullivan served as EU Ambassador to the US from 2014 to 2019.
