These reminded me of a book I read some years ago (the title escapes me ATM) that talked about how limited anyone from a lower dimensional space wouldn't be able to 'see' the extra dimensions of a being having more dimensions than them the same as they do. For example, if we encounter a being having more dimensions than height, width, and depth, to us their face may appear like a "floating ball with eyes" since our brains wouldn't know how to interpret the extra data. My paraphrasing is probably not doing the work justice, but I only mention it here because these images now reminded me of just that.

fyi, there's a hierarchy of angels. Most look normal, but the highest quire is different and serve as the foundational properties of the universe. They're also only seen by man through visions in a way their minds can comprehend, so the way they're described isn't necessarily the way the are.
