Awww Riley! You're by far my fave booktuber! That clip of you walking at the end there made me soooo happy for you!! healing takes time and it's frustrating but the body always heals! 👟🤍

I think our reading tastes absolutely change when we're really stressed. It just makes sense that you'd be craving fantasy when the real world isn't going great. And so proud of you for walking!! I know that represents a lot of pain and work. Go you!

Omg I’m so glad the math of her 80 year old mother bothered you as well! I literally had to draw out a timeline because I was so confused and I could not stop thinking about it throughout the rest of the book!

I really relate to feeling super emotional about not healing as fast as you want to and being unable to do all the things you are so used to doing. I had surgery last month and its rough grappling with not being able to get around or do normal tasks. Healing can feel so so slow when all you wanna do it get back to regular life. I hope that you get better soon!

👟💗sorry if this comment ends up being super long, but you talking about feeling discouraged about walking reminded me how much despair I'd felt when I broke my ankle, because the recovery process was soooo long. but the doctor also gave me the impression that I could walk out and do whatever when I went to my check-ups. the day after surgery he told me I could go back to school within three weeks. I could definitely not lmao. I wasn't allowed to put weight on it for about 2 months, no shoes for about 3, and physical therapy lasted well into summertime (injury was end of february). so please don't be discouraged at your progress, take every victory with pride, and take things slow if you can! remember that you know your limits and your body best, also. my injury was 5 years ago and every time I raised concerns or mentioned pain I was met with dismissal or the impression that it wasn't as bad as I was making it out to me. 5 years of that before I finally got another procedure, only this time as I move through the recovery I know to listen to my body first.
congrats on walking!! I hope the rest of your recovery goes smoothly! you're doing great, and I hope your reading gets better going forward! manifesting only new faves for july 🕯🕯🕯💖

I’m 32 with an 88 year old father, but that also makes sense from a father. A mom being that age doesn’t make sense. My mom is 68.

lol the detail about her mother being 2 during the holocaust also would have made me lose it. that simply makes no sense 😂

once I read a book and the protagonist said she saw sweeney todd on broadway when she was 10 but that would have been impossible timing-wise with the book's publication and the character's age because sweeney todd hadn't been on broadway since 2005, i lost my mind

If the book took place in 2013 instead of 2023, that would make the mom 70ish, which means if she became a mom at 40, she could have a 30-year-old. However, if that's the case the author should have a) announced the year the events of the story are taking place at the beginning, and b) thrown in a few references to the fact the her mom was an older mother, and probably nixed the younger siblings. Little things like that can really throw you out of a story!

A couple of things:
1. So many people are disappointed by The Writing Retreat. That's such a bummer. I was looking forward to reading it, but now...
2. My ex mother-in-law also broke her foot when I was married to her son. In fact, her case was strangely similar to your. It took her a while to walk again, too. Healing is a learning curve sometimes. Keep going. You'll get there.

Totally okay to feel discouraged sometimes, surgery is a bitch! My mom got knee replacement surgery and I remember it took her a lot longer to walk than she was hoping. But she got there and you did too!!! Sending healing prayers!! ❤

I’m so glad you talked about how much you hated The Writing Retreat! Everyone has been loving it and I had all the same thoughts as you, loved the beginning and was actually getting creeped out by the possibly paranormal bits but then it completely lost me, hated the second half

As someone who Shredded my ankle and the doctor took ages to believe that something was wrong. Post surgery it took me almost 3 months instead of a month and a half to drive, 6 months until I was walking sans limp although I still limp some days. And about two months until I could walk any sort of distance.
And I just re sprained it and can tell I did something wrong and I'm so nervous to go back and be told 'my surgical skills are amazing you won't hurt yourself again'.

So you're doing great! You busted your butt and had surgery. You're healing as your body needs and one step is better then no step. You trying is better then not. Go you!! 🎉🎉

I loved Astrid Parker doesn't fail! she is an extremely put together person who meets a dorky carpenter and almost immediately falls into bi-panic. And then they have to fake-hate each other for tv!

The moment I saw that Basgiath shirt, I went to Etsy to buy one for myself!
Congrats on walking!!! Recovery can be so frustrating and mentally draining, especially when it involves relearning "basic" abilities.
Please don't feel like you have to hide the fact that you're struggling, it is 100% okay to not be in a good place. We're here to support you and cheer you on. ☺💜
