The best thing about this video is that is has made sure I never need to waste my time watching anything else on this channel.

To name drop Trader Vic then completely skip his actual recipe is next level.

This is such a perfect parody of how to bastardize the Mai Tai that I'm not upset in the slightest

Light rum? Amaretto? Orange & pineapple juice? Grenadine? Dark float? No lime juice? (Not to mention the glass, ice, and garnish...) Trader Vic is rolling in his grave.

There's no OJ or PJ in a classic mai tai, you're disgracing trader vic

I like this hotel version of the “ Mai Tai”. It’s definitely the most common. As pure, delicious and refreshing is the original version is, this is the one I’m used to. I’ll definitely be making this one. Another advantage of this version is you don’t have to use pricier, less common rums and ingredients. Although I might play with the recipe with some.

This is about as far from Vic's Mai Tai as Spam is from Filet Mignon.
Read Martin Cate's "Smuggler's Cove" Tiki Cocktail history/recipe book to see how to make the true "classic" Mai Tai.

That is, by far, the worst "Mai Tai" I've ever seen... Please, do not even attempt yourself at Zombies or Pearl Divers

For you to say that this thing was invinted by Trader Vic is a crime against humanity. This bears no resemblance to his creation nor legit tiki.

I can't speak for Ryan, but if I were a betting man I'd say something with rum, orgeat, curacao, and lime...

Dude a mai tai doesn't even have amaretto, light rum, triple sec, oj, grenadine and pineapple juice. It's supposed to be dark rum replacing the light rum, almond syrup instead of amaretto, and orange Curacao instead to triple sec. There's also supposed to be lime juice instead of the pineapple juice, oj, and grenadine.

This is NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE to Vic Bergeron's original Trader Vic recipe(s) for the Mai Tai. This is a horrid recipe, in fact. Invoking Trader Vic's name, and then providing this recipe, borders on an outright falsehood.

A more authentic recipe would be 1.5 oz Jamaican gold rum, 0.5 oz dark rum, 1.0 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz orange curacao (or Cointreau, in a pinch), and 0.5 oz of high-quality Orgeat syrup (e.g., Giffard). Shake, strain, serve with crushed ice in a large rocks glass, and garnish with a generous cluster of fresh mint and a spent lime shell. The crushed ice is key, together with the Orgeat flavoring and garnishes, to making an "authentic" flavored Mai Tai.

Any recipe that uses grenadine, Amaretto, or a fruit juice other than fresh lime juice, is a BAD RECIPE for this drink.

Trader Vic's original recipe used a 17-year-old Wray & Nephew aged Jamaican rum, which has not been available for more than 60 years. The combination of a modern Jamaican gold rum and a smaller amount of a dark rum is meant to mimic the original flavor profile.

Recipes you may find which include an added floater of high-proof rum are are NOT the "original" Trader Vic recipe. Trader Vic, however, would add this upon request for guests who wanted it, but even today, this is not the standard way of producing the drink at the few remaining Trader Vic's locations.
