Excellent. Thank You. I heard a story told by a man who stood about 25 feet from Hickok when Hickok killed a guy. The guy, whos name I have forgotten, was a "well known troublemaker". He got drunked up & then bragged that he was going to kill Wild Bill. Someone tipped off Wild Bill who then went out into the street to confront him. The guy got on his horse, cocked his rifle & charged at Wild Bill. Hickok yelled past him, "Don't shoot him in the back! He's drunk"! The guy stopped his horse & spun around with his rifle. Hickok drew his revolver & shot him through the back of the head. (There weren't nobody behind him) 😂 Quick thinking on Hickoks part, & they don't call them drunken idiots for nothing.

Wild Bill told Tute, Tute better not let Wild Bill see Tute wearing the watch. But Tute wore it anyway, mocking Wild Bill.
That's the way I hear the story.

We need more of that frontier justice brought back today.

I have read that showdowns such as this were uncommon. And there was a lot of ambushing and shooting opponents in the back in the old west.
Sounds about right knowing what I do about people.

I'm about a mile from the center square in Springfield Missouri where that happened, and I have read the plaques they are marking where each man stood many times as well as other accounts of event. Tutt had been publicly lording it over Hickok that he had taken his watch from him, cancel everybody in town figured that Tutt had been trying to provoke a confrontation, and that is what decided the jury. What is remarkable is the distance at which Hickok hit Tutt, or they were on opposite corners of the fairly large square. With the side arms of those days, Hickok most of aimed a couple feet over Tutt's head to hit him.
Do not try this at home unless you have to. Hickok apparently had to.

This was rarely the way a gunfight was conducted. Lots of backshooting was typical.

I live in Springfield. There are markers in the streets where the two men stood.
It's literally the town square.

HE was not legendary; he was unknown at that time outside of that town

Hickok is the real deal. A true lawman and gunfight.

It was imlied to be 75 yards.
Not true, this even is obscure, people said he used a colt navy, dragoon. Used his arms as a stool for his revolver, took cover. or stood there.

Y'all need to do your research. A colt dragoon has an effective range of 70+ yards. And it probably was closer, to 50-60 yards. So yeah.

Buffalo bill Cody was asked about Hickock he said he gave him that name when they were young and hunted buffalo with two other's all four were named Bill and Hickock was always fooling with his gun and he wasn't that good a shot and didn't have a fast draw but always started first .

You should be embarrassed showing a watch like that in the video and how it was opened. Both the watch and how it was handled and opened was completely wrong!
