Upton Sinclair's novel "The Jungle," perhaps more than anything else, is the reason we're given over and over again for why we need government regulation. Too bad there isn't the first bit of truth to it.

The bottom line is "The Jungle" is balderdash.

For the supposed workers who died in the vats and were ground up as meat, where is there death certificates? Local obituary? Court documents from resulting law suits? Transcripts of witnesses testifying of workers dying? Local newspaper articles of people dying in vats? Anything at all for this claim?

My response was simple: "well, that's why I'm not against having any standards. I just don't want the Government to do it...":

I love it when people use fictional pieces to prove a argument.

So how can I validate the claims about the congressional hearings? How do you go about finding this out? I don’t disagree I just would like a quote or something lol

the state bad but also the state good when "disproving" someone pointing out flaws with organizations that pay them to do their bidding.

I'm not saying it never happened it probably did to an extent, but Sinclair did obviously exaggerate his claims. And haw dare they compare this trash novel to Uncle Tom's Cabin
