And that's why healing is important. You need time alone to be able to let go and completely detach from your past. It's lonely, not going to lie. Sometimes I miss being in a relationship, almost go running back to my ex but I know I can't. So, I cry and ask the universe to release the pain. It gets easier as you get stronger the more you sit, feel and let go of that darkness. Don't drag someone else into your mess just to make you feel good. You never will unless you heal. This is why I want to move on and heal completely before jumping into another relationship. We were together for almost 4 years and its been almost 3 years since we broke up but I'm still on my way to healing.

Edit: Its been a year since I commented this and I'm proud to say that I'm fully healed now and already had the courage to risk it again with someone new. So to all those who haven't healed yet, that time will come and you won't even notice it that much.

This song is a prime example of trying to move on before you’ve healed. There are too many relationships built on toxicity and trauma bonds. If you’re in a situation with someone new who is everything you’ve ever wanted, it’s picture perfect, and you don’t want to lose it…well…then hold onto it and don’t let go.

If you’re unhealed, and you’re still pining for someone else, that new person will eventually leave bc they know their worth and they are not going to be an option. They know the kind of mutual, reciprocal love they want and deserve. They know they deserve to be a priority and treated right.

When the new “perfect” person eventually leaves and you go back to live in your toxic past, guess what? You are going to realize what you had and what you let go of. Most people don’t realize what they have until it’s gone. You will realize you made a HUGE mistake and the regret is gonna hit you so hard knowing you had the most amazing person in your life who was everything you’ve always wanted, but you let it go because of your unhealed traumas and toxic behaviors.

When that happens you will realize what a fool you were to hold onto your toxic past, and you will be heartbroken that you lost that new person.

If that’s you, then do the work in yourself to heal; and then run back so fast towards that “perfect” person. Fight for that person you had in your life who was perfect for you in every way, but who you lost due to poor choices, unhealed traumas, toxic behaviors, and toxic masculinity/toxic femininity.

It may be too late to get them back, it may not be, but if you don’t try you will never know. The right person is worth fighting for so if you have messed up…then apologize, make it up to them, fix it, prove to them you’ve changed, rebuild trust, and show them you truly love them every day.

Don’t be the guy in this song. Heal from your past and appreciate the love that comes your way that treats you right, loves you right, and is so good to you. It’s rare, and if you are lucky enough to find it, hold onto it, because it doesn’t come along twice.

I just happened to see this song and the lyrics hits me so hard. My husband had a very long past relationship (11 years.) She was his childhood sweetheart and her dream. So sad that she left him for another man which I think is my husband has a very big share why she left. We're together, sometimes happy sometimes fighting but deep inside him, behind his super strict aura. I still see the young boy that is so in love with his ex. He might have erased all the memories of them because their parting was painful but the fact remains that in his heart her ex owns the biggest space and me? I'll be the person who stays if he wants me to stay, the person that gave him kids and the person who'll love him unconditionally despite everything, I'll also be that person who will leave him if his ex and him have the perfect time to be together. (Her ex is married with kids too.) You can call me many names still from that moment that I ask God for him to be the one for me one of my many wishes is to make him happy and I think the thing that will make him genuinely happy is with the person he strongly loves... When that perfect moment arrives I will just watch him from the corner, I'll be happy too.

People preach about fully healing and moving on before getting into a new relationship when they tend to forget how the ones in your memories helped shape you into a more mature person for the new person. It's not about leaving the past or forgetting that one person. It's about accepting that the person is gone and this new one, no matter how hard you try to hide it, will bump into those echoes of your ex (and you them), and it is then will you two truly be able work it out or not.

After reading comments, i realised how wise am i to not jump into relationship..i dont regret staying single until i get my love of my life:) I remember my childhood bestfriend have proposed me and i rejected cuz i was not matured enough to be in relationship n i dont wanna end friendship cuz we never knew the future. And so he dated new girl and indeed our friendship still in good terms. And after ye broke up he again approach me again but i rejected again cuz i dont wanna be someone replacement just because we know each other better...and then he started to date another girl again.. and i am still glad to not jump into any relationship either its him or other cuz i dont wanna be part of replacement or traumatized. In conclusion i am happy, optimistic towards my life n goal with no relationship issue...and idk till now if my bestie was genuine about his proposals to me..but i can never accept him after seeing him dating girls in a row
