Be aware - many Garifuna families have a different oral history. They say their people were never enslaved, and there was never a shipwreck. Rather, their ancestors arrived at St. Vincent intentionally, earlier than the colonizers, during an exploratory journey by the king of Mali.

Lol this shttt is all wrong ...they were no damm shipwrecked, europeans invented that shipwrecked theory in order to justified in taking the land yurumei, my ancestors were never slaves, also we still speak our language, we still honor our ancestors we still hav our spiritual beliefs, funny thing the missionaries tried to built churchs to try to convert them, the garifuna burned there chruches and killed the missionaries, and ask yourself this if they were so called slaves then why signed multiples treaty with them .and in our dugu songs there ancient songs there no songs of shipwrecked, theres bo songs of slavery, i know im a shaman or buyei in my language you cant allow these european to tell our story we need to tell our own stories .
