IN 1980, $20 DID NOT BUY THOSE GROCERIES. IT DID NOT.

I remember, in the '80's, when minimum wage $2.15 an hour. And for twenty bucks you could only buy enough potatoes and bologna to last mom, dad, and four children a week. Never could you buy a whole buggy full of groceries.

This statement is wrong, the average price of a home in 1980 was around $47k, plus this lady looks to be from the 1950’s early 60’s.

Americans complain about the price of things in the United States because they don't know the reality of less developed countries like Brazil. Here, everything we buy from abroad is twice the price, and if it's with Paying in dollars is 6 times more expensive and there are still taxes which make it 12 times more expensive.

In 1980 i worked on a commercial swordfish boat and for a crew of four for a 12 day trip we would get 7 heaping shopping carts for $700 or $100 each. The carts were however much deeper than most are today. Just enough room underneath to slide a large bag of something like dog food. The boat owner would give us a blank check and the store manager would greet us and help us load our groceries in the truck.

We had a family of 8. Our grocery bill in 1965 was about $35-40 a week, and we bought our 4 bedroom house for $23, 000.

I was alive in 1980. That amount of groceries cost WAY more than $20 and the only "house" you could buy for $15, 000 would need about $30, 000 in repairs

I'm amazed at the size of each item. Shrinkflation is the real thief

So, Inmoved out in 1979 when I joined the Navy, but up until then, I lived in a house my dad bought from a dairy farmer in Liberty, MS for $500. He towed it to Baywood, LA. and it stood right there next to the Amite River until a flood undermined it and it fell in the cutbank.

Everyone should just agree for a reset on inflation

BS. I was a cashier at Kroger from 1979-1980 while in high school and I made $12.50 an hour. More than some cashiers now. And $20 would get you some hamburger, milk, bread, steakums and a case of beer.

It's not greed, it's inflation caused by bad government spending.

Those groceries in Cali would be 150-200$ and that house in Cali would be worth a million or more most likely
