World Cup 2022: Qatar’s stadium cooling technology set to provide pleasant experience

When Qatar was awarded the 2022 World Cup, it promised air-conditioned stadiums to keep players and fans cool.
In the decade since, sustainability and climate change have become hot topics.
In 2010, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy began collaborating with Qatar University (QU) to design and implement innovative cooling systems for its FIFA World Cup stadiums.
The visionary behind the technology was Saud Abdul-Aziz Abdul Ghani, professor of mechanical engineering at QU.
Abdul Ghani, nicknamed "Dr Cool", was already working on technology to balance the demands of the environment and the comfort of international fans.

Al Jazeera’s Joanna Gasiorowska went to meet Dr Cool at Doha's Al-Bayt Stadium.

I bet that the workers who built those stadiums also had a very "pleasant" experience doing it.

What an environmentally and economically sensible world cup choice hahah

This is why the world cup is held every 4 years. The amount of preparation done is mind blowing. This is due to the excitement of the tournament. Holding it after every 2 years will kill the hype and vibe of the tournament.

Hyberlab is the specialist in the outdoor cooling. hybrlab did the same thing in 3 open places in Qatar, Umm Al-Sanaim Park, Al-Gharafa Park, and Rawdat Al-Hamamah Park. i hope all Qatar will use this system because it is truly a blessing, especially in the summer heat.

Hypersonic missiles and air-conditioned football stadiums is what the World needs in A.D. 2021...
Luckily, the enlightened (and democratically elected) leaders have heard these cries and delivered both in plentyful supply!

The simple fact they are glossing over is that this innovative design is done solely in order to have a healthy grass field in the middle of a desert. If they had put in artificial grass they would not need AC whatsoever in Qatar at this time of year (average temp is around 75 F, 24 C... these are comfortable conditions for players and fans). He even said that those air nozzles are to create the right air conditions for healthy grass to grow. If FIFA wanted to show they are sustainably minded, they would have waved their grass-only field rule to have a world cup in A FREAKIN DESERT.

you cannot change nature, , no matter how you invest

I don't know why they're bothering tbh, this is the reason they changed the dates from mid-year. In November/Dec it's literally avg 25 degrees C. hardly 'we need to air-con our stadiums' temperature. We sat in hotter stadiums in Brazil (Natal) and in Russia(Sochi)

But why not just build dome stadiums like they do in Texas, Arizona etc.
