Track 4 from their third release, the compilation album "Built for Speed" released in 1982 copyright Arista Records. It contained songs from their first two albums that had been released the year before. The band was formed in the small town of Massapequa, NY on the south shore of Long Island and the members were all diehard rockabilly fans. They were also fans of late seventies punk rock for its rockabilly influence. Their instrumentation was true to the original pioneers of the genre and included a standup acoustic bass and Gretsch guitars. When they heard that rockabilly was having a resurgence in England, they moved there in 1979 to become a part of it. They played the London clubs and developed a following, leading to interest from several record companies. They signed with Arista and were lucky enough to have fellow rockabilly artist Dave Edmunds from London help them produce their debut. It was released worldwide in 1981 except for the U.S. and Canada. It was decided that this would be the first Stray Cats album released on this side of the pond a year later. The album received above average reviews. The singles "Rock This Town" and "Stray Cat Strut" both reached the Top Ten on the Billboard chart. The album achieved Platinum status in the U.S. and was certified 2X Platinum in Canada. Written by Brian Setzer and produced by Dave Edmunds. Featuring:

Brian Setzer - Lead vocals & lead, rhythm & pedal steel guitars
Lee Rocker - Acoustic & electric bass & background vocals
Slim Jim Phantom - Drums & background vocals

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)

Black and orange stray cat sittin' on a fence
Ain't got enough dough to pay the rent
I'm flat broke but I don't care
I strut right by with my tail in the air

Stray cat strut, I'm a (ladies' cat)
I'm a feline Casanova (hey, man, that's where it's at)
Get a shoe thrown at me from a mean old man
Get my dinner from a garbage can, meow
Yeah, don't cross my path

I don't bother chasin' mice around, oh, no
I slink down the alley lookin' for a fight
Howlin' to the moonlight on a hot summer night
Singin' the blues while the lady cats cry
"Wild stray cat, you're a real gone guy
I wish I could be as carefree and wild
But I got cat class and I got cat style"

I don't bother chasin' mice around
I slink down the alley lookin' for a fight
Howlin' to the moonlight on a hot summer night
Singin' the blues while the lady cats cry
"Wild stray cat, you're a real gone guy
I wish I could be as carefree and wild
But I got cat class, and I got cat style"

Meow
