All I can say is WOW - and is this really a 33 1/3 Program Transcription? Great Quality on top of the serendipity! And of course, many thanks for the posting...

Sounds like the first take (about 40 seconds) was at the wrong level (too much gain). Seems to saturate and clip on peaks. I guess that's why they cut it short, and started over. Couldn't hear any musical errors that would have given cause to do it over.

Also interesting to hear basically the same passage played through twice AFTER that initial take, first with very nasal Solotone mutes on all the brass, then open bell the next time through.

Rhythm guitarist placed very well to one of the pickups. Classy.

So idk what is going on but at the very end, just after the bell the recording speeds up a lot, maybe this was dubbed from tape or the cutter slowing, regardless its intresting.

United Artist as in Fairbanks, Pickford, and Chaplin?

@roybo1930 Dunno...a more apt question might be, "Did UA ever put it in a picture?"

Is this a direct recording, or is it a check dub from an optical track?

'nother thing...Does that handwriting read, "Calabrese Orchestra"? As in Lou Calabrese, b/k/a Lou Breese? Lou did form a band in '36 - but it was in Chicago...
