Mine went out 2017. I opened mine up a few years ago. Cleaned it with a wire wheel and WD40. Its 2025 still going no issues

Did you ever install the cleaning port and do the VG cleaning procedure in the manual? I have a thread started on Cummins Forum for this exact issue and I'm looking for feedback on this process. It is accomplished with the turbo installed. Drill and tap kit to install port, hose kit to connect cleaner, then use scan tool to run truck during cleanning process. Sounds like you may not have done that though and just opted to swap turbos. If that's the case, you should check out the procedure in your manual. These stock Holset turbochargers are built very well and the VG is a pretty robust design. It requires cleaning though.

Your issue is that a tab on the nozzle came loose and jammed up your actuator so it doesn't have full travel. you turbo isn't junk and its 100$ to get a new nozzle. its a very common issue.

Seems to help if you use your exhaust brake every time you drive

My turbo no longer recieves a hot oil treatment from the ccv. I also have my EB setup to be on and stay on when i turn the truck off and back on. Ill 3g swap it with a BD exhaust brake but were at 172000 miles on the stock turbo.
