If you attempt any balloon framing today you just have to include ample fire blocking. Can’t have straight stud cavities from basement to attic, the flames spread too quick. Aside from the drawbacks this is my favorite framing method. You get 1 solid piece of wood as each stud for the whole height of the house, as opposed to platform where each floor is broken up (doesn’t sound very good for a hurricane right?) and it’s far faster than the granddaddy, timber framing, even though I realize that has its own structural & cosmetic advantages.
