US lawmakers have grilled the head of TikTok Shou Zi Chew over the social media firm’s Chinese ownership.

President Joe Biden’s administration had threatened to ban TikTok unless the firm's Chinese owners sold their stakes. But the Chinese have opposed a sale.

TikTok has more than 150 million American users, which includes about five million businesses.

A spokesperson for TikTok said afterwards the politicians were "grandstanding"

What we know from this hearing is that you don't have to be mentally competent to be a US law maker.

CORRECTION: Tiktok boss was not grilled by the US Congress for hours, but US Congress exposed itself to the world as a bunch of tech idiots for hours. I suspect Mr.Chew's toes were laughing throughout the entire proceeding!

Any company growing stronger that surpassed US would be labeled as “threat” and would be banned..😅

Correction: The CEO was not grilled by US boomer lawmakers. Their ignorance was such an embarrassment to the American people. This is not all about privacy and security issue. Meta is behind this stupid hearing.

This shows that there should be a age limit to being a politician

Your video title should be: TikTok CEO showcases the inaptitude of American congress. They were rude, disrespectful and oh so stoopid.

How can they not mention the disgusting behaviour of most Congress in that hearing. Constantly pushing their thoughts, which often didn't even make sense because they are all old farts that don't understand moden technology and interrupting when he's 2 words into his response

It wasn't "tough questioning" it was "dumb questioning".
He wasn't able to answer because they weren't letting him answer.
And also questions were so incredibly dumb that half of the time it was hard to even understand what the hell they are even saying obviously he couldn't answer.

Meta didn't get destroyed by Tik Tok, they're destroying themselves without the need of others because they're self sufficient company that are able and skillful at destroying themselves

The lawmakers are surprisingly foolish. Asking questions like does TikTok connect to home wifi?😅

It's a pity that a lot of people are influenced by "social media influencer".

This was never about data privacy. Meta and Alphabet are still deputised and compelled by the US government to supply them with user data even without warrants.

This is merely about the US holding an information monopoly. If data privacy was ever a major issue, Facebook, Instagram, and Google would've been banned ages ago

It really is telling that the only thing that politicians seem to be worried about is how the Chinese government can "influence" American teens. Darling, teens are exposed to a lot of shit on the internet (including tiktok) and for once, I don't think "Chinese propaganda" is the problem to pay attention here.

As if Google and Facebook don't sell the data 😑

Also the concerns of “foreign influence” are laughable, a South African owns Twitter, an Australian owns Fox News.

Shou Zi Chew was oppressed to the extend that he was prevented from giving answers
