Karnataka Election 2023: Why is Karnataka so important for BJP?

Karnataka Opinion Poll 2023: After the conclusion of the Assembly elections in three Northeast states, all eyes are on Karnataka, which will go to polls in May. In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Karnataka to dedicate and lay the foundation stones for projects including the inauguration of the ambitious Bengaluru – Mysuru expressway. The Karnataka polls in May are critical because they will kick off the Assembly election season in right earnest, with six big states to hold polls ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Karnataka accounts for 5.04% of India’s population and elects 28 of the 543 Lok Sabha officials. This makes it seventh in the list of states with the highest number of Lok Sabha MPs- after Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh. With this being said, Modi finds Karnataka especially important because the politically, the state has seen the steady presence of the BJP party. In the 1994 Assembly elections, the BJP won 40 seats out of 224 and in 2004, 79 seats. In 2007, B S Yediyurappa became the first BJP CM in the state.

With fresh elections held in 2008, the BJP improved its tally to 110 seats of the 224 seats. And in 2018, when the Modi era had begun, the BJP emerged in Karnataka as the single largest party with 104 seats and a vote share of 36.22%. Even though these numbers seem high, the Karnataka Assembly elections are being taken very seriously. This is because competitors, the Congress especially, in 2018, won most of its seats against the BJP (58 of 79 to be exact) indicating that it is still a main competitor in the state.

Therefore, in a sure bid to gain more seats, PM Modi is especially focusing on infrastructure development and education worth approximately 16,000 crore rupees including the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway and the IIT at Dharwad which cost over 850 crore to build.

Karnataka is wise enough to choose the Party with national interest in mind not to divide the country on a religious basis.

Not only Karnataka, every state of the country is important for BJP government in the country. Modi government has already left Congress far behind and now people of the country are very much happy with the performance of the Modi government.

The BJP game plan was
1, Make Rahul Gandhi a comedian using media and paid people
2, Make narendra modi a hero using media and with clear game plan
You cannot see Narendra modi giving press conference ( see the interview of narendra modi where Narendra modi commented on RADAR )
Whenever Any technical or legal question is asked Narendra modi crack a joke why? he does not know how to answer the question

Karnataka has been only a tax collection state. For every 100rs tax collected from Karnataka state, only Rs.36 is spent back on it (2017 data). While Bihar gets Rs.219, UP gets 149, MP gets 139 for each Rs. 100 collected from those states. While national average of electrification of trains is 85%, only 50% of trains in Karnataka state are electrified (at 24th rank behind almost every other state). The state has been the victim of caste politics for decades. It does not have a strong regional parties like Tamil Nadu or Andhra, and does not have enough seats to influence the centre via national parties. I think it is the time for people to wake up and demand the actual progress for the amount of tax that is being collected. BJP is better than minority pleasing governments people have seen, but unfortunately even BJP has not done much for the state.

Never have seen a state government asking for votes only in the name of the PM. The Karnataka CM's name is not to be seen or heard in any campaigns. That sends a clear message. Just as congress is fighting factionalism, the BJP in KA is also battered with infighting.

More developmental things can be achieved in Karnataka, but One BIG PROBLEM is, Karnataka MP"s are very LAME. I have hardly come across any MP of Karnataka on the floor of the House. Take for example MP's from Hassan and Mandya. MP's of Bangalore has to do more. They are VERY Silent as WOOD.
