With a Google Sheets pivot table, you can easily sum the data in a row and or column without using a formula. For example, say you want to sum the credit card payments and debit card payments made over, say the last three years. You can create a pivot table by placing the relevant headers of the source table below the rows, columns, and value elements of the pivot table. Set the summarize by option to sum, if it's not already set, and the pivot table will automatically calculate the sum by row and or column.
