Most people think of the Maya peoples as a former civilization. Although there’s no question that Mayans no longer possess the same dominance that they once had, many would be surprised to find out that Mayan culture is still alive in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula (Campeche, Yucatan, Quintana Roo). But before getting into present day Mayan culture let’s look at how it got to where it is today by looking at it's history. All footage in this documentary was shot and is owned by Hum of the Earth.

I’m Mexican American and I want to learn Nahuatl and Mayan language because I believe in my true roots of my ancestors. I really wish many Mexican would learn this language, many are being tough by a colonial language of Spanish. That is slowly destroying the language of Mayan and Nahuatl. Let us never forget who we are and where we came from.

Hi!!! I'm Máyan., Living in a small mayan village rigth in the border of Yucatán and Quintana Roo estate.now the mayan train is coming, some people disagree a Lot of agree.however the mayan Villages are going to Have more chances to get involve in the tourisim industry.the past decades the big develovers of hotels are owning the mayan beaches and pushing then indegenous aways. They dont a right since the mayan culture is one the reason tourist visit the area. Most of mayans work for Big hotels. wich is good but in the other hand they suppose to Have more chances like in other countries.but here it beens segregated.Hopely more mayans can Learn more hospitality skills and we can develope Nice Cabañas and houses in our mayan Villages so tourist can visit and stay in a propper place and enjoy the mayan village surrounded by the jungle, mayan people we are pretty shy, quite,we adopt You as part of the family, iven if we look like we have four eyes we are Nice lol.. our Villages and without disrecpect, people are very calm compare to other places in México. Our Villages are for not big parties or nightlife but there is CENOTES to swim in them enjoy it by yourself or with Friends and family.u can Also ride a bike around the town or to go to the CENOTES., do some bird watching, spend the sunset playing soccer in the field with mayans kids and your kids.some of this towns are only 50 Miles from Cancún, Tulum, Holbox, Playa Del Carmen, Valladolid, Chichen Itza. Hopely wey get more tourist that loves the athenticity of a place than just party on the beach and stay in Big buildings.

I love how the people in these comments praises these cultures even though they did human sacrifices and conquer other tribes as well.

In English you should say Maya, as for maya culture, maya people, maya nations, maya art, etc. Mayan is reserved to talk about the language and other linguistic phenomena so you should say mayan language and languages, mayan speach, mayan literature, mayan writing, etc.
In English is considered improper to use mayan to refer to the people.
The term maya world was created to promote tourism in the region, the term maya area is used in academic settings, but we call our land Maaya' or Mayab, the last one been more use as to avoid confusion with the language and people. Mayab was originally used only for the Yucatán Peninsula down to the Petén-Itzá area in modern Guatemala. But now a days is beginning to be used more and more as to refer to the entire maya area.

Yeah but nobody speaks these languages anymore so you can never find anyone speaking that language unless you're an archeologist and go to these remote areas. Also the Mayan Empire ended centuries before the Spanish arrival and by the time the Spanish went to that area, the Mayans were a scattered tribe with no central leadership like the Mexica and the Inca had.
