Why use tools with an LLM?

Tools are an integral part of an AI System. They enable 3 important functions:

1. Allow reasoning with data not in the training set, especially useful for real time or private data.
2. They help reduce hallucinations. It is a characteristic of LLMs that they prioritise tokens in the context. You can re-enforce this in the prompt as well.
3. Secure access to data. You can pass the user context to the tool, this means that actions taken by the tool will have the same privileges as the user.
