This is one of the best movies of Stephen Frears, another of my iconic Directors of independent cinema. It's kind of a cult film with a very good plot based upon Jim Thompson, the famous author of black novels. With very good actors as Annette Bening, Angelica Houston and John Cusak and the Scorsese production, the result is an outstanding one. It catches you from the mere beginning. It's a haunting movie with surprising turns of the screw, and an all time unexpected ending. A very remarkable work that will keep you sticked to the screen, as the better thrillers do. With House of Cards and the Ridley Scott one, the three stories develop an unforgettable trilogy about the grifters matter. You'll love it. It's a masterwork, in my humble opinion. 🆒👍✔️

I saw it when it first came out. Off kilter, funny, surprising from the first note of Elmer Bernstein's Main Title to the depraved end, if memory serves.
