As a 12 year old student if it is incorrect then sorry so, when we do 1000 - 300 = 700
When we do 700 + 500 = 1200 and he lost 1000 rs and he left 200 rs and give each friend 100 rs .

300- amount spent
200 - the balance remaining after purchasing the shirt
Now if you add both balance together it gives you 1500
The correct equation will be
Total amount= remaining balance of both+remaining balance of the amount paid
In short 5x=4x+x
But you asked
5x=4x+2x which will return
5x=6x which is not a proper value and a equation as both the results are not equal

In short the equation you gave i.e 1500=1300+300 that in itself is a wrong equation and it doesn't make sense to take that as a proper equation

The t-shirt part is just for confusing. 1300 was to be given in balance and he already returned 200. This gives a total of 1500 and that's the answer. Pretty easy and I would love to utilize my brain in more such questions. Love you bro.
