Vortex Vibe Review

Today we're checking out the new Vortex Vibe! This unique 78% layout provides a numbed on the right for any number crunching, but compacts the layout by removing the dedicated keys found on a standard Tenkeyless keyboard. This layout may not be appealing to everyone, but the option to switch between numpad mode and tenkeyless mode gives you plenty of flexibility.

I programmed it so that the function layer includes the arrow keys at the bottom of the numpad. Massive improvement. I love this board. Only thing I wish this had was dip switches cause I would love to flip to location of the 'fn' & 'pn' keys.

I have this keyboard, and there are several differences between the engineering sample that you have and the one that is available for sale. Mine has no backlighting, a black metal plate, black cherry stem housing, and highly sculpted keys. I also have the Cherry MX Silver Speed Switches. One thing worth noting is that you do need to get the firmware update from the Vortex website to get the 00 key and the lighting on the caps lock working (I am on Windows 10). This is a very unique keyboard that has somethings that I really wanted...a reduced TKL-like layout with a number pad (I use the numpad a LOT).

My Vortex Race 3 ISO UK which arrived this week has the same blue stabiliser stems which I thought was interesting. I particularly love the Fn function to switch to a Dvorak layout, as it's something I've been trying to learn.

You mention switching between TKL mode and Numpad, but what are the differences? Where are the arrow keys mapped to? What other functions are there when not in numpad mode?

I guess folks don't find the fn key placement uncomfortable? I think would be better if it was on the left of the keyboard, so it leaves the right hand to only press those keys on the fn layer as opposed to having one hand do both, similar to how the shift key is used.

Pro tip: The Vortex ViBe can quite easily be fitted into the case of an Apple M0110-A for a sweet, retro look. The caps can be stolen from a vintage Cherry keyboard if you want to go the extra mile!

I really need simultaneous number pad and arrow key functionality. Is it possible to program the F1-F4 keys (or some other keys) as arrow keys while also having the numlock activated to I can have full use of the number pad?
