That's it then! I have put a layer of organic matter on my raised beds to compost overwinter. I was going to dig it in before the start of the next growing season. Not now. It will stay on the top and I will let the worms do it for me.

If we do not "disturb the soil" and use seeding systems such as high residue mulch till or one pass direct seed. You can watch this informational video on soil health and soil erosion. This is "sustainable" farming, using stewardship to protect the natural resources.
There is an error if I try to add a direct link so you should search for Soil Stories - The Whole Story on Google, it is a 29 minute video about soil, soil health, and direct seed veggi production.

Flooding in Argentina's soy fields has increased dramatically since the advent of no-till farming. How do you explain that?

We moved to the house with surrounding "undisturbed" soil: bold, no worms, and usually dry. No fertilizer helped, buying new soil seemed too much needed and expensive. I started "disturbing" my soil by regular composting the food leftovers instead of feeding an ordinary trash can. Surprise!!! Grass and trees are growing healthy, beautiful flowers for all seasons, and happy worms! - plenty for my garden work and fishing. Ha! - Disturb your soil my way!!!
