Don’t worry - I got a E, F, U - now I have 2 masters degrees and am top of my profession. Exam results don’t define you.

Just the fact that you had the balls to post this vulnerable and disappointing moment in your life says everything about who you are and where you'll get to be. This video is a million miles from all the 'ego and image' posts and you'll have helped so many people see that they aren't alone with exam results less than they expected. Well done for the strength of character and good luck for the resits and beyond!

I got c, d, d and I just graduated with a 1st in mechanical engineering and I’m about to start a graduate job!

If you don’t win make sure you learn why.

You are a very brave person for doing that on line. You have your whole life ahead of you and try not to get disheartened. Sometimes you have to fail to appreciate how good it feels when you eventually succeed.

From someone who was in your position not so long ago, let me give you some advice. I really wouldn't worry about re-taking your A levels. Find a university that will potentially accept a lower grade criteria and go straight into your degree. A degree is a degree at the end of the day and there's only ever going to be a handful of universities where it's going to drastically stand out. Once you get your degree it will only be useful to get your first job and then it will only be your experience that employers will actually care about. This is all coming from someone who got Ds and Es in his A levels but now has a 2:1 bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and has climbed his way up the corporate ladder working his dream job in power electronics. Chin up.

You just randomly popped up on my feed but good luck. My advice for what it's worth: Work like hell this year, don't go travelling or any of that crap, securing your future is more important, then you'll have all your 20's to go travelling if you want. If you have predicted ABB then you can get it, and those grades will get you into a Russell Group uni (which are the only ones worth going to). If you can then get a tutor then do, or maybe one for each subject but I appreciate cost might be a limitation (however given uni is £10, 000's it amazes me how many people won't pay £50 a week for a tutor to actually get in!) and make sure they know what your target grade is. There's no point beating around the bush, you will have to put in loads of work to get those grades, but I know from my own A-Level and uni experience (and others) that if you put in the work, you absolutely will get the grades. Good luck again!

Heartbreaking to watch but this is not a failure, just another step on lifes journey. There are always options whether it's a gap year, re-takes or a change of direction. Keep your chin up and explore all your options.

Props to you for sharing this. Most people only share the highs in life.
Good luck on retaking next year! You are right when you say grades do not define you

I just want to say to ignore every single negative post. I am starting a levels in September and your post has truly helped me realise it is okay to not achieve the grades i want. I really feel more open and accepting of lower grades now after seeing this, and i am a perfectionist literally in therapy trying to stop being so harsh on myself. You are really helping me to feel better about my grades not being ‘perfect’ so to speak. I just got a 6 in gcse English language when i was predicted a 9. I felt awful. But i am realising it is not the end of the world and i can still do what i want to in life without the grades i think i need. Thank you! Im sorry your results weren’t what you wanted, but you handled it so well and i am certain everything will be okay from here. Wishing you well.

I failed everything at school ... failing was the best thing I ever did. Got a PhD in 1997 and became a professor in 2014. Hang in there.

The Year I spent retaking my A levels was the best time ever. I still got into medical school, made the best life long friends because of the year I entered. I thought it was the worst day ever but fate is in charge. I can’t say I was as well adjusted within 2 hours, perhaps 2 weeks when I discovered the 8 others from my school retaking with me! Enjoy your year, everything happens for a reason, we just don’t get to find out why for a while! Good luck 😊

In 1977 I took my mock a level in pure maths, I achieved 2 out of 80 which was rather generously upgraded to 3%. My maths teacher suggested I try some other subject as maths wasn’t for me. A year later I gained my first employment in a Bank, some years down the line I became a bank manager. Don’t worry, hang in there, life normally works out fine.

I left school with 8 ‘O’ levels (now GCSE’s) at age 16. I am now CEO of a listed company. A levels don’t define you, get out into the world of work and make your way in the world 👍🏻

I failed mine and resat - am now a partner in a law firm ! It's a life lesson also the nonsense Covid and grade boundaries led to a lot of students missing top grades so don't worry just take a break and then refocus .

Exams are not a true test of intelligence, they are a memory game. You'll do great in whatever you pursue in life

It may seem like a big deal now, but when you're much older, you'll look back and laugh. You are destined for greatness. Don't let some letters on a screen define you. Take care. God bless.

Big hugs. I got ABB but flopped in my degree, getting a 2:2. I was inconsolable when I got the result. After my degree I took time out to do a bit of travel and also did an internship abroad. That experience opened many doors and I am now thriving in my career.
The important thing is to know that you still have many options available to you. Life has a way of working things out :)

Don’t worry…things will work out. I know loads of people who have had academic setbacks and failures…but the important thing is to put it behind you and focus on the future - in your case, re-sits.
