Here are some tips and tricks I use to do a stealth car camp anywhere I go. I have done some trial and errors and improved it greatly since my first run. From temperature settings, the airflow rate, flat sleeping surface, privacy, security, I got it all covered here.

You're right Francis, I can feel the excitement and creativity flowing as you we're recording this. Screw the YouTube algorithm, make what you love, live within your means, hang around the people you love. You'll be happy overall, that's what I'm realizing myself.

It’s really stealthy and based on personal biases, you wouldn’t think someone would be sleeping in a Tesla. Which adds an extra level of stealth

I learned more about self defence from watching this video than I have watching Active Self Protection

You are treating the situation in a less than efficient manner. And stressing out about it too much.
Take it from someone who grew up living in a bus needing to find a place to park and sleep every night... this is how you go about finding a place.

1. Do not cruise around residential neighborhoods looking for a dark place to park. This looks suspicious and draws attention.
2. Find a well lit parking lot at 24 hour store, like a Walmart, etc.
3. Walk into the Walmart and ask the manager if it is OK with them if you park overnight in the corner of the lot? Tell them you will be happy to pick up/clean part of the lot, you will not be a nuisance, and will be gone by a certain time of the day. 9 times out of 10 they will be cool about it, and if you are rousted by the police, you can inform them that you have permission.
4. Act like you belong somewhere. If you are confident, you will be less likely to be questioned.

In the case of a Tesla, you have an immense advantage over sleeping in a regular beat up car, or a bus/camper... it is a freaking Tesla. No one associates a Tesla with shady people, or the homeless... even in the Bay Area.

In your case, same rules apply as above, but with added perks.

1. You can park at a slow charge destination charger, and trickle charge overnight and claim that you are charging and taking a nap.
2. If you park overnight at places like CVS etc that have 120V outlets on the light posts, you can charge at 4 mph while you sleep, or a bit more at a charge point station.
3. You can park at many superchargers overnight, and no one cares if you are not on the supercharger.

Again, no one looks twice at a Tesla parked anywhere but a ghetto.

Basically, always ask permission, and you will be fine.

This is my new favorite YouTube video. I came here to learn how to sleep in my M3 and learned some of the most valuable self defense tactics I’ve ever seen

I tried this for the first time and I liked it! I think I used up about 30 miles in my model 3 to keep the climate on and it must have been about 40 F (5 C) outside over night. I used some window shades like the ones mentioned in this video, which I got on amazon and I just put down a very thick down comforter and slept on that with a sleeping bag. That was a little bit too cold but fixed the problem in the middle of the night by blowing up one of those thin inflatable therm-a-rest camping sleeping mats. I had a regular pillow and a tempur-pedic and I actually slept pretty well.

I read that you can sleep in a park-and-ride lot overnight so that's what I found. Check your state regulations. You can also read up on camping out in a service station based on my research and I might try something like that next time. This was a really cool and fun experience and it is exciting to not shell out $150 to $250 bucks per night; If someone offers to pay you that much money to sleep in a Tesla for a night and the answer is yes, then YES, you should try this. I love my Tesla so much more now.

If you have old weak man bladders like I do, you might want to think ahead of time about what you feel comfortable doing :-)

Next time I'm going to buy some extra shades to also block out the light from the top two panes of glass.

I did stealth camping several times with my wife. It does take some time to drive around and scout for that perfect spot. I parked once at a busy intersection, work up so many times because of cars speeding by in the middle of the night.

Also, having a jackery is nice. Those can charge your laptop.

I can't wait for more self defense videos. Best thing I've seen all week.

You should make a video on how to travel overseas for newbies, a complete rundown for people who don't know how to travel like in Japan. Where to shop for tickets, what happens in the airport, how much cash to bring, where to exchange money, etc. It can be part of a series. I am sure you will enjoy making it, and people will like to watch.

Dude, I grew up living in a bus. 24 hour grocery stores are about the safest place you can camp at. They have security, cameras, patrols and traffic.

Hey Francis. I love the idea of sleeping in your car. My fiance and I slept in the back of a jetta wagon on our vacation for one night. We have dark window tint on the back window (5% film) and ligter tint on the front two windows (20% film) . My tint job cost less than $300. With the dark windows and a sun screen in the windshield no one could see in at all. We have the weathertech window visors. we left those cracked to let in fresh air. The back of the wagon had plenty of space for the two of us to lay and sit up. We had a foam matrass topper to lay on in the back. Quite cozy! If I was a single man I could honestly sleep there every night. Walmart lets us sleep in the parking lot. No issues at all. I like the window tint much better than the window covering. With california you are allowed to have as dark tint as you want on the back half of your car, and like you said you can see out of the tint just fine.

Ahh ....i have had a van ever since i started driving & i ve stayed in my vans for over 50 yrs when at my art shows for a week end til i get back home ... one can stealth park if they are streetwise .... being able to have room to really take care of my self when my van is unloaded for my shows is an art all by it self .... im self contained with out built in typical camper fixtures .... you make your own to fit exactly your needs .... i can cook & clean up ... i stretch out my wery bones after standing 16 hrs a day if your show goes into the nite .... i have always had a van as a plan B in case i loose my house .... id love to see you travel in a nice not to flashy van, its a great freedom im in my 70s now & i still do art shows .... but when i take time off for my self i like to park at the ocean & listen to the waves

First video I watched where someone actually realized the importance of protecting themselves! Respect the knife in the door, never know what can happen but better to be prepared.

i've slept in my rav4 before while on long road trips - quiet office parking lots away from busy streets with other vehicles already parked, apartment complexes off the main roads with limited traffic, and side parking at walmart in slower areas work pretty well. sometimes i'll camp in the parking lot of a motel if there are already a lot of vehicles so yours won't stand out - motels inside a city may require some kind of note/tag. i'll sleep at a truck stop if necessary, but they tend to be noisy and very bright. it works best to already have window tinting. i use a klymit blow up sleeping pad and the alvantor popup privacy tent, which i hang with bungee cords. the tent helps to cut out a lot of distracting light and looks like total blackness, especially with some tinting already installed

Oh, I remember the first time you did this in your old car, and I was thinking about how much better it would be for you in a Tesla. I only just started watching, so this should be interesting.
